The steam locomotives, known as “jumbo†because of their pulling power, were used with great success in almost all of Germany and in many other European countries. The top speed was 80 km / h forwards, and 50 km / h could be driven backwards. Some of these already very powerful machines recorded a further increase in output to 2,100 hp (1,546 kW) at the Deutsche Bundesbahn when they were converted to oil firing from 1955. The DB's oil-fired locomotives had the series designation 043 from 1968.
