The requirements in Swiss freight traffic changed due to the new flat runway and the opening of the Gotthard Base Tunnel (GBT). Multi-system locomotives are required for continuous traction from the North Sea to Italy. This increase in efficiency was implemented in 2017 with the rental of Vectron MS locomotives from the Viennese leasing company ELL Austria GmbH by SBB Cargo International. The machines are equipped for use in Germany, Austria, Switzerland, Italy and the Netherlands (DACHINL).
