The role model
In the early 1940s, the DRG procured a total of 16 two-car multiple units for suburban traffic in the port city of Szczecin. They were built by the WUMAG company in Görlitz and received the company numbers VT 137 331 to 367 and VT 137 367 to 376. In the "Stettin" type railcars, four different diesel engines with the same output and the same prescribed installation dimensions were manufactured by Daimler-Benz , Deutz, MAN and DWK tested. However, the Szczecins were no longer used before the Second World War. They were parked at various RBD Stettin stations only as a reserve for the Wehrmacht. After the end of the war, nine remained with the DR, four with the later DB and one initially with the CSD. The DB put three vehicles back into service and redesignated them as VT45s in the late 1940s. They were retired in the late 1960s.
