Prototype information B4mgl/Bghw/BDghw passenger cars: Like the DB, the DR also struggled after the Second World War with the enormous amount of maintenance required for the outdated wooden compartment cars. Therefore, the decision was made at the Deutsche Reichsbahn to completely refurbish the subframes to a uniform length. In 1963, the first cars that were created according to this scheme were handed over to the DR by the Raw Halberstadt. This process was soon abandoned due to the poor condition of the old, usable assemblies used. It was decided to build the wagons entirely from new components, and the newly developed "Görlitz V" bogie without axle holders was used as the running gear. The selected length of 18.7 m results from the structural conditions of the manufacturer. From 1963 to 1977, 3,030 "Bghwe" type cars were built, which could be seen in almost every DR passenger train in the 1970s and 1980s. Initially, the carriages were used in express trains in particular due to their thoroughly contemporary comfort and thus also reached destinations in the Federal Republic. She was regularly seen in Nuremberg, Hamburg and the Ruhr area. When it first appeared, its livery was green with a decorative stripe running under the windows and the longitudinal beams contrasting with black. If the DR still planned to convert the wagons, including new windows and new interior fittings, they were withdrawn from service by 1995 after the two German railways were unified due to the changed traffic conditions. Vehicles of this type can still be seen in use today at DBAG, as well as in many clubs and museum railways.
