With the commuting of the long-distance trains from 1996, the SBB procured 60 type IC Bt control cars. In addition to the control cars, the intercity shuttle trains formed in this way consist of adapted intermediate cars EW IV, formerly French luggage cars and type Re 460 locomotives. The 62-seat vehicle is based conceptually based on the well-known Eurocity wagons. The facilities also include a wheelchair, pram and bicycle compartment as well as a closed toilet system with a bioreactor. The shape of the head and driver's cab largely correspond to the Re 460 locomotives, which means that a homogeneous appearance is achieved.
