The vehicles used by the Dutch State Railways are former German long-distance vehicles.
More than 6,145 express train cars of the Deutsche Bundesbahn were designated as UIC-X cars, which were put into service from 1952 and sometimes ran in express trains and in intercity traffic for half a century. These carriages had a level of comfort that was previously unknown in Europe.
