Briefly explained - the idea behind the ET403 couplings:
When designing the ET403 in N-gauge, the question arose about the couplings and the model's ability to negotiate curves. Compromises in the external design should be avoided in order not to destroy the overall image of the model. Most N-gauge railroaders did not wish to deviate from the appearance of the train. At the same time, we wanted to enable use on as many different layouts and track radii as possible. That's why we decided on a solution with couplings in different lengths. With the factory-installed Scharfenberg couplings, the Radius 2 model and the matching switches and curves can be driven through. If the model is to run through tighter radii or "daring" constructions during track construction, you have the option of increasing the distance between the vehicles with the longer Scharfenberg couplings that are included with every model. The "yielding" setting is also due to the mobility between the vehicles. The wagons can still be easily coupled, if necessary by lifting them slightly at the ends. Pulling apart is enough to uncouple. There is also a standard receptacle for the coupling at the front of the train. Due to the prototypically slim shape of the nose, it was not possible to install a backdrop mechanism here. Therefore, long coupling drawbars are also included here in order to simulate towing or a rare double traction.
