Since 1800 the castle Dorenburg was leased by farmers, who farmed there until the late 1960s. In the early 19th century a big barn was built in order to store the harvest. After many changes of ownership in the last 300 years, the castle became the property of the city of Grefrath in 1966 and later of the district Viersen.

Today, a toy museum is set up inside the barn. On three floors one can view toys from three centuries in their respective cultural-historical context.
