PROTOTYPE
In 1958 the first parking meter was installed in London on July 10 with a charge of 6d. From then on they were put up all over the UK to charge for parking. Over 750,000 parking meters have been installed across the UK and the design has been copied around the world. They were placed near a parking lot and allowed the vehicle parked in the corresponding space to remain there for the desired period of time. They were later replaced by the parking ticket machine.
