Truck IFA H6 blue / red
The IFA H6B was a truck built in the GDR. Development of the H6 truck began during World War II at Vomag, although buses were also planned. After Vomag was completely dismantled and destroyed by the Soviet occupying forces shortly after World War II, development continued at Horch, the former Auto Union. The H6B was produced from 1952 to 1959 at the VEB Kraftfahrzeugwerk "Ernst Grube" Werdau (until 1945 Schumann-Werke Werdau), which was part of the Industrial Association for Vehicle Construction (IFA). The bus was initially given the model designation W501 at the VEB Kraftfahrzeugwerk "Ernst Grube", where the "W" stands for Werdau. Later, it was given the designation H6B, in reference to the H6 truck on which it is based: Horch, 6-ton payload, bus. The bus is the successor to the W500, which was larger and equipped with the Maybach HL-120 engine. The H6B was characterized by its high reliability and dominated the streets of the GDR until the 1970s, when it was gradually replaced by the Hungarian Ikarus buses.
