The 800 series, developed by Hitachi, Ltd., was introduced as part of the UK's IEP program as the successor to the conventional HST (High Speed ??Diesel Train). The 800 series trains were manufactured as bimodal trains at Hitachi, Ltd.'s Kasado plant in Yamaguchi, Japan, and at Hitachi Rail's UK plant, enabling them to operate directly on both electrified and non-electrified sections of track. Kato will reissue the nine-car 800/1 model. This version features internally geared bogies, single-roof intermediate cars, and all intermediate cars are first class, distinguishing it from the previous five-car train.
