Modellbahn-Union Bahndoku11 - Book Freight Wagons Volume 11 Dust and Granule Wagons

Railway documentation freight wagons volume 11: Powder and granulate wagons.

192 pages, approx. 500 photos and 50 drawings and facsimiles, format 21.8 x 29.7 cm, hardcover, authors: Stefan Carstens, Paul Scheller, Harald Westermann. Volume 2 of the "Freight Wagons: Covered Wagons - Special Designs" series was published in 1989, containing eleven pages on bulk freight wagons, exclusively DB models. Apart from one elaborate conversion involving numerous brass castings, there was nothing else.
Thirty-seven years later, there are not only numerous mass-produced models, but also a wealth of information on the development of bulk freight wagons. This began around 100 years ago with the first wagons for coal dust and soda. After the Second World War, cement became one of the most important commodities to be transported in both East and West Germany, until finally, from the 1960s onward, large quantities of chemical products and plastic granules were added.
Equally interesting as the development of the industry is the development of bulk material wagons: from two- and three-axle wagons with two upright containers to wagons with hydraulically tiltable containers to bogie wagons with horizontal containers with multiple discharge hoppers, today predominantly made of aluminum.
Unlike previous books, model making occupies a large space in this book and will be presented more prominently in future books as well.
In 192 pages, the three authors, with the support of well-known model makers, use around 550 photos and over 40 drawings and facsimiles to illustrate bulk freight wagons and their use. The range extends from wagons from the 1920s to those built for the DB and DR (German Federal Railways) and on to privately owned wagons.
